Romans 12 | Be Sober Minded- Story Time With Uncle Charlie

Romans 12
Paul begins by urging believers to offer their whole lives to God. He says this is the proper and spiritual way to worship. Instead of being shaped by the world, believers should be transformed by renewing their minds so they can understand what God wants and what is good and pleasing to Him.

He reminds everyone not to think too highly of themselves. Each person should have a sober and honest view of who they are because God has given different gifts to different people. Just as a body has many parts with different functions, the church is made up of many members who belong to one another.

Paul lists several spiritual gifts, such as teaching, serving, encouraging, giving, leading, and showing mercy. He urges people to use these gifts sincerely and generously.

He then gives a series of practical instructions about love and godly living. He says love should be genuine and not fake. Hate what is evil and cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor others above yourselves. Serve the Lord with enthusiasm. Be joyful in hope, patient in trouble, and faithful in prayer. Help those in need and practice hospitality.

Paul continues by teaching how believers should respond to hostility. Bless those who mistreat you. Do not curse them. Share in the joys and sorrows of others. Live in harmony. Do not be proud but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not repay evil for evil. Do what is right in the eyes of everyone, as much as it depends on you.

He adds that believers should not take revenge. God alone is the judge and will repay. Instead, if your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him something to drink. By doing this, you may lead him toward repentance. Paul ends the chapter by saying not to be overcome by evil but to overcome evil with good.
