New Criminal Law Bills 2023 Explained: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed the passage of three criminal justice bills that will replace as many colonial-era acts as a watershed moment in India’s history. The three criminal bills — The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and The Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023. Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in 1860. Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita replaces the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 1973.
