In France around 1500, the term “bransle” began to refer to a dance of apparently rustic origin. It means roughly “to sway, wobble” and refers to the side-to-side movement of the steps, which were danced in a circle or line. 100 years later sets of bransles were quite popular, and we’d like to share our set of Praetorius bransles from Terpsichore (1612) played on recorders and alta ensemble. 🎉🎵🤩
