Located roughly between Lake City and Gunnison, this remote wilderness area features an enormous glaciated alpine tundra called Calf Creek Plateau. This route passes the two Powderhorn Lakes, heads up to the plateau's 12,522-foot high point, "Cannibal Point" (a reference to Alfred Packer), and continues on to Devils Lake at 11,980 feet. Wide ranging views into the La Garita Wilderness, Uncompahgre Wilderness, and others. Expect elk, deer, pine martens, and very few people.
