Updates and additional comments following publication of the video:
1. After double checking I can provide the following clarification. I was incorrect in the video to say that this model does not have any suspension. In fact, it has tiny coil springs hidden behind each wheel. However, it takes quite a bit of force to compress the springs and suspension travel is very small. Unfortunately, this means the suspension is largely ineffectual with such a light body and goes completely unnoticed. I certainly saw no indication that the suspension was moving during my off-road testing. This is why I missed the fact it even had suspension despite checking several times! Perhaps it is provided more to protect steering and drive components from sudden shocks due to harsh impacts.
2. Several people asked about the throttle control. When trying to crawl over rough terrain (especially on downhill gradients) or driving on fast smooth surfaces, it is quite difficult to apply just a little bit of acceleration and when releasing the “forward” button on the handset the car will coast. To slow down or come to a stop you need to press the “reverse” button. More expensive RC models use handsets with fully proportional controls to make the car easier to handle.
3. You will also note from the video that steering alignment adjustments are made underneath the car. Again, on more expensive models the handset can have integrated trim tabs to enable adjustment of the steering on the move.
4. The rear drive axle has a differential installed. This helps the car to turn smoothly on hard surfaces. However, when driving on loose surfaces, power tends to go to the wheel with the least grip thus causing the wheel to spin and the car to loose traction.
5. I was also asked what function the opening doors have on an RC car. In this instance they are provided for added realism when displaying the car as a scale model. The realistic interior is certainly worth showing off. Of course, they can also provide access for a scale driver to be seated at the wheel!
6. In some markets there is a new, more expensive variant of this car with rechargeable battery pack and USB charge lead.
