This video is about line spectra: white light has continuous spectra when passed through a diffraction grating; on the other hand, light from hot gases or light that has been passed through cool gases have line spectra of only a few specific wavelengths.
We discuss the difference between absorption line spectra and emission line spectra.
Then we discuss energy levels for electrons in an atom.
Finally some equations are given relating the frequency of the light to the energy change of the electron.
