THE CONTRACT WITH GOD Trilogy by Will Eisner. I'm not sure what i was expecting when i first read this - something asking the lines of the lighthearted The Spirit, I reckon - but it definitely wasn't cartooning as honest, real, or even tragic as this. Eisner's mastery of the craft is in full display here. He's an uncanny ability to draw the reader in to these slice-of-life stories in just a few pages. Artistically, I love how he very often eschews panels and instead weaves his art into a single page picture that still flowed and, somehow, is the stronger way to tell the story. Fans of the craft and of strong storytelling will appreciate this book.
