Trump renews push to acquire Greenland as congressional delegation heads to Denmark

President Donald Trump is persisting in his efforts to acquire Greenland, citing its strategic importance to U.S. national security and its valuable resources, including uranium, iron, and rare earth minerals.
"If we don't take Greenland, Russia or China will take Greenland and I am not going to let that happen," Trump said.
A bipartisan congressional delegation will visit Denmark this week to meet with Greenlandic and Danish leaders, aiming to strengthen their NATO alliance.
The foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland are set to meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance at the White House on Wednesday. NATO's chief has emphasized the region's risks and urged allies to protect Greenland from China and Russia. Trump first proposed acquiring the island during his first term and has not ruled out military action.
"I would like to make a deal of, you know, the easy way. But if we don't do it the easy way, we're going to do it the hard way," he said.
However, some Republicans and Democrats oppose military intervention, stressing the importance of respecting Denmark's sovereignty.
