Inside the Intermountain Bird Observatory (They Need Your Help!)

We visited the Intermountain Bird Observatory near Boise, Idaho—where researchers gently catch, band, and release wild birds as part of one of the longest-running migration studies in the West. From up-close encounters with owls and songbirds to seeing how science and conservation come together in the field, this was one of the most inspiring outdoor experiences we’ve ever filmed. But just 10 days after our visit, the Lucky Peak research station was hit by a wildfire that destroyed critical habitat and much of their gear.
