Shoko Asahara, head of Aum Shinrikyo cult behind Tokyo gas attack executed

Over in Japan, back in 1995, devout followers of a doomsday cult carried out simultaneous attacks using Saring never gas Tokyo's subway system, killing 13 and injuring thousands.
Today, the man who founded the doomsday group and masterminded the horrific act, is executed, along with several of the zealots that followed his every command.
He leaves behind many questions regarding the Aum Shinrikyo cult... unanswered

Shoko Asahara, the mastermind of the deadliest terrorist incident in Japan, has been executed on Friday along with 6 of his followers.

Asahara, whose real name was Chizuo Matsumoto, founded the Aum Shinrikyo cult which was behind the 1995 Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system. Cult members released the Sarin on the subway in the Japanese capital. The attack killed 13 people and injured more than 6-thousand others. Members of the Aum cult were prosecuted, and 13 of them were sentenced to death, including Asahara.

The 7 convicts on Friday were executed in Tokyo by hanging on Friday morning. The Japanese government doesn't give prior notice of executions, but they were later confirmed by the justice ministry. Six others are still on the death row.

Asahara was sentenced to death in 2004,.... but his execution was not carried out until now when the verdict against all accused and accomplices were final, with no pending appeals left against any of the group.

The Aum Shinrikyo cult began in the 1980s as a spiritual group mixing Hindu and Buddhist beliefs, and Asahara declared himself to be both Christ and the first "enlightened one" since Buddha, and had thousands of followers worldwide before it was declared a terrorist group after the 1995 attack.
