Aloha! 🌈 We are Alexus and Michi: PhD students and an international (Mexican American German) LGBT couple at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, located in Honolulu, Hawaii (Oahu). Alexus is a fourth year PhD student studying Biological Oceanography (Marine Ecology, Deep-sea Biology) and Michi is a fifth year PhD student studying Second Language Studies (Applied Linguistics, Language Teaching).

In this week’s video, Alexus shares the mistakes she made applying to grad school back in 2019 as well as her experience applying to graduate school. She shares which graduate schools she applied to (all 9 of them!) vs. which graduate schools she got accepted into. While sharing her graduate school application process experiences, she shares common mistakes that applicants make when it comes to the graduate school application and how NOT to apply to graduate school. This video is full of advice and tips for those interested in applying to graduate school in a program such as oceanography, marine science, or marine biology.
