Maynard Ferguson "Life on the Road" DVD - Vol. 1: 1989-2006

On the tenth-year anniversary of the first DVD of Maynard Ferguson’s “Tales from the Road,” there has recently been lots of interest in a second run of DVD’s. For those maybe not familiar, the video compilation is a sequence of videos from my personal and private library of road footage, backstage, on stage, rehearsals, bus scenes, airport antics, etc. from my touring years with the Maynard Ferguson Band.

As many of you know, I was with Maynard and the band for 25 years. The entire collection spans many, many hours of footage, however with the help of my friend and trusted partner Dan Potts, we put together a collection of clips to show just how much fun living on the road with Maynard and his band really was.

All the proceeds from the original project went to further the legacy of Maynard Ferguson in the form of scholarships and grants for various music departments of my choosing, particularly, The Maynard Ferguson Institute of Jazz studies at Rowan College, in Glassboro, NJ. Also, to my Alma Mater, the Univ. of Tennessee at Martin. The UTM Music Department now sponsors the “Ed Sargent Guest Artist Series.”

My career with the band begin with a concert by Stan Mark as a Guest Artist with the UTM Band in 1980 that opened the door for my career, and this is my way of giving back to the school that gave me so much.

Dan and I have decided to do an internet release of the content, in full for the Maynard fans that do not have the DVD at no cost to the viewer. We hope you enjoy this material and truly get a glimpse of the magic that was The Maynard Ferguson Band.
