郡上八幡は、岐阜県中部に位置する風情ある城下町。

郡上八幡は、湧水が豊富で、「水舟」と呼ばれる共同の水場が町中に点在している。

郡上八幡城は戦国時代末期、遠藤盛数がこの地に城を築いたことに始まる。
ここは、飛騨・美濃の国境に位置し、その姿から「天空の城」とも称される名城である。
その佇まいと、歴史が刻まれた石垣、眼下に広がる城下町の風景は、最大の魅力だ。
江戸時代には、青山氏が支配し、郡上踊りや水利網の整備などに力を注いだ。
中でも、藩政改革を巡って起きた「郡上一揆」は、農民による大規模な訴訟であり、百姓の声が幕府によって認められた日本史上における民衆運動の先駆けである。
城から望む、城下の町並み、長良川の清流、遠く連なる美しい山々、特に秋の紅葉や冬の霧がかった朝には、雲海に城が浮かぶ幻想的な光景が広がる。
郡上八幡城は、山城ながら美しい天守を持ち、防衛拠点としても戦略的価値を有していた。
現在の天守は昭和8年に木造で再建されたもので、日本最古の木造再建の天守である。
天守内部は資料館として整備され、郡上藩の歴史や武具、城郭模型などを展示している。
郡上八幡は、城と城下町、清らかな水、伝統という歴史と文化が調和した町である。
現代においても、その暮らしのリズムと歴史的遺産は大切に守られており、訪れた人に時間を超えた日本の原風景を体感させてくれる。

Gujo Hachiman is an elegant castle town located in central Gifu Prefecture.
It is known for its rich nature, history, and unique culture.
During the Edo period, this area developed as a castle town of the Gujo Domain under the rule of the fudai daimyo Aoyama clan.
Gujo Hachiman has an abundance of spring water, and communal watering holes called “mizu-bune” are scattered throughout the town.
The water boats serve not only as a source of water for daily life, but also as a place for people to interact with each other, conveying the history of the symbiosis between people and water.
Known as the “town of water and dance,” Gujo Hachiman attracts visitors throughout the four seasons.
Gujo Hachiman Castle dates back to the end of the Warring States Period, when Endo Morinazu built a castle here.
Located on the border between Hida and Mino, it is a famous castle that is also called “castle in the sky” because of its appearance.
Its appearance, the stone walls engraved with history, and the castle town scenery spreading out below are its greatest attractions.
During the Edo period, the Aoyama clan ruled the area and focused on the Gujo Dance and the development of the water network.
Among them, the “Gujo Revolt,” a large-scale lawsuit by the peasants over the reform of the domain government, was a pioneering popular movement in Japanese history, in which the voices of the peasants were recognized by the shogunate.
The view from the castle of the town, the clear waters of the Nagara River, and the beautiful mountains in the distance, especially in the autumn when the leaves turn red and on misty winter mornings, is a fantastic sight as the castle floats in a sea of clouds.
Although a mountain castle, Gujo Hachiman Castle had a beautiful keep and was of strategic value as a defense base.
The current castle tower was rebuilt in 1933, and is the oldest wooden castle tower in Japan.
The inside of the castle tower has been developed as a museum, displaying the history of the Gujo clan, its weapons, and a model of the castle.
Gujo Hachiman is a town where history and culture are in harmony, with its castle, castle town, clean water, and traditions.
Even today, its rhythm of life and historical heritage are carefully preserved, allowing visitors to experience the timeless original landscape of Japan.
