Goa Marks St. Francis Xavier’s Feast With Great Devotion

he historic and sacred precincts of Old Goa once again came alive with profound devotion as thousands of faithful gathered to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis Xavier, the beloved Apostle of the East. The annual solemnity, which draws pilgrims from across India and around the world, was marked by deep faith, vibrant tradition, and spiritual grace.

This year’s festive Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Auxiliary Bishop Simião P. Fernandes, who led the congregation in heartfelt prayers, invoking the saint’s intercession for peace, harmony and spiritual renewal.

Goa’s Archbishop, Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão, concelebrated the Mass along with several priests, adding to the spiritual grandeur of the occasion.

The Feast witnessed the presence of the Chief Minister of Goa, along with other dignitaries and political leaders, who joined the faithful in paying homage to St. Francis Xavier. Despite the large turnout, the atmosphere remained solemn and prayerful, echoing centuries of tradition associated with the revered saint.

This year, as in every year, hundreds of thousands of devotees and pilgrims—from Goa, various parts of India, and countries across the globe—walked the sacred grounds seeking blessings, giving thanks, and expressing their deep devotion.
