Cape Nosappu in Nemuro City is the easternmost point of Hokkaido. It is also the easternmost point of Japan which is accessible to the public. At the tip of the cape stands the Cape Nosappu Lighthouse. Built in 1872, it is the oldest lighthouse in Hokkaido. On clear days, you can see the islands of the Northern Territories from the cape. It is also a popular spot to see "hatsuhinode" or the first sunrise of the year.
