He succumbed to his injuries a few days later, marking one of the darkest chapters in Sri Lanka’s history. The assassination was believed to be politically motivated, and it led to a period of political instability in the country.

Following his untimely demise, his wife, Sirimavo Bandaranaike, stepped forward to continue his political legacy, becoming the world’s first female Prime Minister and a key figure in Sri Lankan politics for decades to come.
