In this video, I share the truth about Hugelkultur and filling raised beds with logs, why you probably shouldn't do it, and what is the cheapest way to fill raised garden beds. Hügelkultur, or "mound culture," is a technique of converting mounds of decaying wood and other compostable biomass into a raised bed. As the biomass decays, it releases nutrients and acts as a water storage battery, reducing irrigation needs. Modern Hugelkultur adaptations recommend filling raised beds with wood chips, branches and logs to have a similar effect, but is this actually a good idea? You may be surprised to learn that this can be a big mistake!
