The Zhongyuan Festival (中元会 / 中元节), also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, is an important cultural event in Singapore celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month. It is a time when communities honor ancestors and wandering spirits with offerings, prayers, and lively stage performances.
Beyond its spiritual significance, the festival is also a vibrant community gathering. Dragon and lion dance troupes perform to bless the event with prosperity, harmony, and good fortune. These performances symbolize respect for tradition while keeping the rich heritage of Chinese culture alive in modern Singapore.
