GHANASS student develops first-ever Web -Based AI trained learning platform on Ghana's New Education Curriculum
A form two Visual Arts Student of Ghana Senior High School in Koforidua,Eastern Region has developed a first -ever web based Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered platform trained entirely on Ghana Education Service (GES) Standards -Based Curriculum(SBC).
The AI tool auto-generates SBC-aligned lesson plans that fully integrate National Values, 21st Century Skills, cross-cutting issues, and the National Teacher Standards.
It provides creative starter and closure ideas for every class, develop engaging assessments based on DoK levels with ready-made rubrics, and instantly build Table of Specification for the semester — all stress-free, in minutes on www.learnbridgedu.com.
It even features a learner’s portal, guiding students through the curriculum step by step.
Joshua Segu, now seventeen years old says he was motivated to build the platform after observing the lack of resources for the new curriculum.
"After introduction of the new curriculum I noticed there were not enough resources for both teachers and learners So it's like there's a problem. Why don't we create something that helps teachers teach the SBC because it's a new curriculum that has been introduced. There's not a lot of resources there for them to use. So I went and I thought about this and I said why don't we use AI to help teachers when these resources are lacking. So I went and built Learnbridge mid-March ".Joshua Segu ,narrated.
The student further provided details on how he created the platform.
"We upload the curriculum to the system. So it breaks it into vectors. So then we use a similarity search tool. For example, if I type design me a lesson plan for art and design, we compare the generates me a lesson for art and design and we check the similarity. So if it's similar to what is over there, then we use our content to generate.
It often features a learner supporter guiding students through the curriculum step by step. When you are hard-pressed and you need a plan, you can just get onto Learnbridge, enter your strand, your substrand, your content standard and then the system search into the resources and then put together a plan that you can use. Teachers can also use it for assessment" he said.
Joshua Segu's curiosity with AI started in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic when he had full access to the internet at home for online classes by his formal Basic School.
He started watching videos in YouTube on how social media and other AI tools were created.
Samuel Ohene Sarfo, Joshua Segu's teacher who identified his talent and provided the needed support and directions is much impressed by what the student has built.
" I asked him what do you do? He said he does coding and I was surprised because myself I started picking up some concepts and it wasn't easy for me. So I gave him my laptop to show me and then he accessed platforms that he had created and I was really surprised.
And so that was how I came about and identified. So immediately I called his father to come around or to bring his gadget".Said Samuel Ohene Sarfo, Visual Arts Teacher and Mentor.
The Impact has been immediate, students and Teachers have been exploring the platform to enhance teaching and learning.
So based on the depth of knowledge. So we have DOK 1, 2, 3 and 4. So the system is able to set questions in the manner that you like based on the DOK. So you instruct the system to give you DOK 3, 4 questions and that DOK 1, 2 questions and the system does that based on the curriculum and the topic you enter".
The headmistress of Ghana Senior High School, Mrs. Diana Akosua Mintah is deeply impressed about the innovative learning platform.
She explained that , the student also developed a electronic voting system platform used by the school to elect prefects.
Felix Pascal Duhoe, Assistant Headmaster Administration, said the school has tested the platform and express confident it can help improve teaching and learning in the country.
" they have a platform where students have their link and teachers also have their link where the system can help teachers generate lesson plans. As far as the concept is introduced the system can generate the teaching points and assessment points and students too can go to the same platform and have their own way of learning".
Management of Ghana Senior High School says government and the private sector must be interested to help invest in the system and scale it up nationwide.
Joshua Segu, also appeal for scholarship after completion of school to further his education at Stanford University to pursue Computer Science Engineering and explore silicon Valley to acquire more knowledge on AI and Information Technology to develop solutions to Ghana's problems.
