This is a demo of the Brioche 4 Stitch Decrease, used to create a centered decrease in brioche or tuck stitch knitting. It turns 5 stitches in to 1. Some instructions call for a cable needle or a locking stitch marker to do this stitch, but I find it easier without one. The standard written and chart notation are shown as well as how to form the stitch.
Written instructions for this decrease: br4st dec - Slip 1st (brK w/ YO) and 2nd (plain) sts knitwise separately, then slip them back to left hand needle together through front loop, sts have now traded positions. Slip next 3 sts (5 wraps - plain stitch, brK w/ YO, brK w/ YO) knitwise together; with left hand needle, knit into next 2 sts (3 wraps - plain stitch, brK w/ YO) and pass slipped sts over (4 sts dec'd).
