David Halls is music director of Salisbury Cathedral in England and has written this trumpet tune following in the styles of Edward Elgar and William Walton. 20th Century English trumpet tunes have two distinct characteristics - they are set in the form of a march and contain two themes- one of great joy and abandon, and one of sheer beauty. It’s for this reason they make such wonderful works for Easter: the theme of joy and abandon is ultimately united with the theme of beauty through the orchestration and tempo, making for a multi-colored work of celebration!
