My name is Jacqueline Bush and I'm an editorial in celebrity hairstyles. My clientele has included Faith Hill, Mark Ruffalo, Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jane Krakowski. I want to be able to show you that hair isn't as intimidating or as hard as you think it is and I want you be able to have fun with it and do what your vision is with your hair. So now I'm going to show you how to do a half up-do. Our model actually already has curls in her hair, I showed you in some earlier videos how to curl hair. You can start out that way if you want, or if you just want to put your own natural hair texture in a half up-do, this is also a great trick. So first what you want to do is make sure your hair isn't too soft, because if it's too soft there's not going to be anything to grip the pins or whatever you put in your hair. So if you haven't put any product in you could start with a little bit of hairspray. Just spray a little bit of that in. If you have fine hair you probably want to put in more hairspray rather than less. If your hair is courser, a rougher texture, you'll need less hairspray. Now the way to kind of judge it is, there's a couple of tricks. You can section off (I'll use my comb so you guys can see it better) you can section off from the top of your head to the ear. I'll do it on the other side as well. Top of the head down to the ear and pull back the rest of it leaving just that out. And now, I'm taking a tiny little rubber band (I have it in my hand to be prepared) With this hair what you're going to do, is you're going to take this and based on if you look better with maybe you want a little piece out, maybe you look better with a couple of pieces out, maybe you look better with it all pulled back. That's all up to you that's what makes it your own creative unique design and don't be afraid to experiment. But you're going to take the sides from each ear, you have them out, you're going to pull back both of those sections, pull them back loosely. And if you have all this little frizz, what you can do is you can take a little bit of paste just to smooth that down, or even you can brush that part if it's a little too messy. Make sure it's nice and smooth. Then you're going to take these two pieces (this guy you can see better) with one of these little rubber bands. I'm just going to go ahead and secure that at the back of my head. Now you have that guy in there. And then what you're going to do is you're going to take a tiny piece of hair from underneath. You're going to wrap that around once, twice, then you're going to pin that with a bobby pin. You're going to take the bobby pin flat side going into the rubber band, and then into the hair below, because that's what's securing it and you're pushing straight up. I'm going to do one more because when you 'x' those pins, that makes sure it's really nice and secure. You see it's covering the rubber band? And there you go, that's how you get a half up-do.
