FIRST : LISTEN TO THIS IN STEREO. Headphone or speakers, but not on phone.
Let's try to get an "AC/DC like" tone, out of a JCM 900 4100.
4100 head, 5881 tubes, converted to 4500 (50w)
2x12 Greenbacks
Mic in front of the speaker
Epiphone G400, with Gibson 490 Pickups
A Channel, 6 on gain to be just in between clean and slight crunch.
-On left and right side of the stereo image, i have used different pedals to boost the channel :
*Marshall Bluesbreaker 2, in boost mode. Modification "Ballbreaker" by Msm workshop
( • Marshall Bluesbreaker 2, Ballbreaker mod, ... )
*BlackTan custom pedal (Modified ROSS distortion Clone). (Lot of outout and very low gain.)
( • BlackTan Distortion, handmade by Msm workshop )
BOSS GE7 in the Fx loop to get a bit more mids and less highs.
The sound is raw, i did'nt mix it, i didn't aim for the perfect track, but for real tone, i you were listenning me in my studio. The goal is not the "cheat", but to be more transprent, the more honest as possible.
ABOUT THE JCM 900 :
I personnaly like the A channel a lot.
The B channel is useless for me. I find the tone to but to sccooped, to harsh, it doesn't feel right.
It's cool for heavier music, but not for that vintage style Marshall tone.
THE 900 DR is for me a really great amp, allowing guitarists to get Vintage and more moderns tones out of one single amplifier. Used right, the tone is great and i'm really happy with it.
Thanks for watching,
Guillaume.
