Upgrading The CPU On A Laptop - Intel Celeron to Core i3/i5/i7 - Stone Computers NT310-H, i5-4210M

In this video I guide you through the process of upgrading the CPU / processor on a Stone branded laptop. Clevo and Stone laptops are basically the same - so these steps should apply to both brands. The process should be similar for the other laptops they make as well.
The laptop shown in this video is a Stone NT310-H with the model number W550SU1.

I am upgrading the processor of this laptop in order to deliver better performance and make the machine faster in general.
The original processor that came factory fitted in this laptop was an Intel Celeron 2950M at 2.0Ghz. This model machine uses a chipset supporting Intel Haswell processors and could be upgraded to a Core i3, i5 or i7 4th Gen CPU as long as the TDP rating is the same.
I chose to install the Core i5 4210M at 2.6Ghz as this gives the best price to performance ratio at the time of recording.


I would recommend updating the BIOS to the latest version (if available) before attempting to change the CPU of any system.

I expect that these steps will be very similar for most models of Stone or Clevo branded laptop but you will have to find out what CPUs are supported by your motherboard model. The manufacturer can usually help advise on this or you can research what CPU options were available for your machine when new. This should allow you to make an educated choice on what will be compatible with your laptop.


WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
The laptop you are going to be upgrading the CPU of
The new CPU you want to install in your laptop (i5-4210M in my case)
A small Philips / Pozi / cross head screwdriver to remove the bottom cover & heatsink
A Torx T8 screwdriver to operate the CPU socket retaining / lock mechanism
New Thermal Compound / Paste for between the CPU and heatsink
Some tissue or toilet paper to clean the heatsink and CPU
Isopropyl alcohol to help clean the CPU and heatsink (optional)
Preferably the latest BIOS update installed for your laptop (optional)


All laptops do vary and you probably won't be able to copy this video exactly unless you happen to have an identical laptop of the same model. It should aid as an overview of the basic process however for any laptop make and model.
