Sanitizer Experiment

I took a glass filled with water, added a few
pumps of hand sanitizer, and lit it up with a match. At first, it looked like nothing was happening - the water seemed calm. But when I brought a piece of paper close... BOOM, it caught fire instantly!

So what's really happening here?

Hand sanitizers usually contain alcohol (ethanol or isopropyl alcohol), which is highly flammable. When you pour it on water and light it, the alcohol burns with a blue, almost invisible flame. That's why it looks like nothing is burning - but in reality, the fire is right there on the water's surface, waiting to ignite anything flammable that touches it!
