Before 1984, when Jesse Reyes (Cal-State Bakersfield) repeatedly inside tripped Princeton's John Orr in the 142 finals, does anyone know any wrestlers that hit inside trips? It seems to me Jesse was the first. Wow, look what he started, 5 minutes of inside trips, out of upper body ties, out of front heads, out of Russian ties. The video begins with Vincenzo Joseph hitting his trip for the ages on I-Mar for the pin in 2017. Chris Fleeger (Purdue) is next, losing to Abas in the 2002 semi but nailing him on a trip. He also hits Bunch (Edinboro) while winning in the second round. Yoshi Nakamura (Penn) gets two trips on Gray Maynard (Michigan State), the second in overtime for a win in the 2001 157 7th place match. Chris Marshall (Central Michigan) his two in 1999 and 2000. Keith Gavin loses 8-2 to Askren in the 2007 final but opens the scoring with a trip. Teague Moore (Oklahoma State) nails Morgan (Michigan State) in the 1998 final to go up 4-0. Matt Demaray (Wisconsin) gets the go-ahead takedown off a trip in 1991. Brian Dolph (Indiana) gets one in 1990, just after the UNI coach yells "Watch the trip!". Pat Smith (Oklahoma State) wins his first of four titles, 11-7, in 1990 but gets tripped along the way by Schleicher (Navy). Doug Wyland (North Carolina) strikes first on Cuvo (East Stroudsburg) in 1989 with a trip before Cuvo pounds his way back to the title, 10-8. Steve Fittery (American) gets two in 2001(3rd at 157), one out of the Russian, the other out of the front head. At the 3:41 mark Damion Hahn (Minnesota) hits one on Trenge (Lehigh), doesn't get it but is in perfect position to turn it into a lift finish.
At the end of the video, the master himself (Jesse Reyes, of course) explains how he does it at the National Wrestling Coaches Association clinic at the 1985 NCAA tournament, followed by one of his many trips in the 1984 final.
