Oplan Tabang Siargao | Send-off Ceremony

𝗗𝗔𝗩𝗢𝗥’𝗦 "𝗢𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡 𝗧𝗔𝗕𝗔𝗡𝗚" 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗢𝗙𝗙 𝗧𝗢 𝗦𝗜𝗔𝗥𝗚𝗔𝗢

THE BAYANIHAN SPIRIT IS ALIVE ONCE AGAIN as the Provincial Government sent off a team to Siargao Islands, morning of Janaury 11, 2022, tasked to help in the relief operation and disaster response following the devastation caused by Typhoon Odette last December.

The group consisting of around ninety personnel comprises a medical team, security personnel from the Philippine Army and Philippine National Police, food and logistics, and coordination teams who are set to turn over P500,000 cash assistance and conduct a three-day medical mission at Burgos municipality.

Aside from the cash and medical services, the team will also turn over 1,000 sacks of rice, 300 boxes of canned goods, and 1,600 pieces of GI sheets with roofing nails and "vulcaseal."

Governor Nelson Dayanghirang, who initiated the mission, said this is the province's simple way of showing care to a neighbor in dire need of help.
He said the people of Davao Oriental could empathize with the people of Surigao as the province has also experienced a massive devastation way back in 2012 caused by Super Typhoon Pablo, which flattened and destroyed towns. Amidst the devastation, the Governor said he also witnessed the kindness and generosity of strangers and the benevolence of other provinces who came to the province's rescue.

"What we bring now to the people of Siargao is just a small aid compared to the scale of the devastation. But what truly matters most is showing care and compassion by letting the people feel that they are not alone in these challenging times," said the Governor, adding that "It is in times of disasters that we need to show the bayanihan spirit."

"Just as Davao Oriental has been able to Build Back Better, so can the people of Surigao," the Governor added.

The team led by Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office-Operation Center Manager Mr. Francis Jason Bendulo and Department of the Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Orle Cabaobao is set to help in the relief operation up to January 17, 2022.
Also facilitating the send-off ceremony and security briefing earlier this morning at the Provincial Capitol is Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office Provincial Director Police Colonel Efren Orlina.
