FalconCam Project~Di brings prey for her pretty hungry Girri~5:22 PM 2025/12/04

I'm happy that she had dinner this evening. It is the second prey today. Yesterday food was scarce. It looks like Di will now be taking care of Girri on her own. Next year will be easier for her. Gimbir has learned a lot.

NEWS 3rd December
Girri is now four weeks old, so only a couple of weeks to go before fledging. She is currently moulting into her juvenile plumage. She is now as tall as Gimbir and nearly as tall as Diamond so not much doubt left about her sex ie female. Prey is coming in less often now, but usually larger prey such as galah. Gimbir is still bringing prey but mostly smaller.

Girri (Wiradjuri for 'red') chosen by your good selves. It is pronounced with a hard 'g' and rolled rr's as in Gui-irri.

The average number of days from hatch to fledge at this nest site is 43, a bit earlier for males and sometimes a bit later for females. We don't know yet which sex Girri is. If he or she gets to be taller than Gimbir, we know it's a female.

The two non-viable eggs will be collected and inspected at the end of the season.
