I could do an entire series on badass Louis Johnson basslines, this part from George Duke's "Overture" really stands out. For such a quick slap bass groove, it blows me away just how clean Louis plays every single note, getting the nice full tone of the bass even on the shortest notes.
Known as "Thunder Thumbs", Louis Johnson has bass played on many incredible recordings including Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" "PYT", Get On the Floor" and "Off the Wall", and has worked with a host of other mega artists including Herbie Hancock, Sister Sledge, Michael MacDonald, Aretha Franklin and Billy Preston to name a few. As part of The Brothers Johnson he also had a number of hits including "Strawberry Letter 23", I'll Be Good To You", Ain't We Funkin Now" and many more greta funky grooves.
