If you’ve ever attempted to clap along to “I’m a Jayhawk,” don’t worry — you’re not the only one who finds it difficult. Clapping with KU’s fight song is notoriously tricky, and even the most seasoned Jayhawks will miss a beat now and then.
When George “Dumpy” Bowles wrote the song in 1912, he couldn’t have predicted its future fame. In fact, “I’m a Jayhawk” didn’t find favor with KU fans until 1920. But when it did catch on, it went to prove that Jayhawks love a good challenge.
