The Berlin Subway, known as the U-Bahn and operated by the BVG, opened in 1902 and has expanded since into a total of 9 lines (U1 to U9).
The system shares many similarities with the NYC Subway such as station architecture, infrastructure, lines with small profile trains (Kleinprofil) and lines with large profile trains (Grossprofil), and also old rolling stock configured in married pairs.
The oldest rolling stock in service are the 1964-1966 built A3E cars (small profile) and the 1973-1975 built F74 cars (large profile), while the latest ones are the 2014-2016 built I (large) and IK (small) cars. The BVG has recently ordered new J & JK cars that are currently being tested, which I was lucky enough to catch in Part 1.
In Part 2, we are covering a bit more of the small profile (Kleinprofil) lines on the elevated segment, and large profile (Grossprofil) lines at several locations. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to do lines U8 and U9, but I might post some shorts of them later on.
00:00 : Hallesches Tor Station (U1, U2, U3)
13:11: Hauptbahnhof, Bundestag & Rotes Rathaus (U5)
19:39 : Unter den Linden (U6)
20:37: Mehringdamm (U6, U7)
