Johannes Brassart was an early Renaissance composer from the Burgundian School. He is likely born in Lauw near Tongeren, in the prince-bishopric of Liège. From 1422 until 1431, he worked at the collegiate church of St John the Evangelist in Liège. In 1431, he moved to Rome where he worked as a singer in the papal chapel. In 1435, he became rector of the chapel of the Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund. He worked there until 1445, when he finaly came back to Liège to work at the collegiate church of St. Paul. He died there little time before 22 October 1455.
Brassart composed many individual mass movements but no complete mass. Here, five independent mass movements have been assembled together to create a complete setting.
