Cheap vs Expensive Fishing Rod Challenge - Fly Fishing for Wild Trout!

In this video I’m dressing up as the grinch and delivering myself a $5 rod for Christmas.. because who else would only spend $5 on a Christmas present? The goal for the video is to prove you don’t need to spend $500 on a rod to catch fish… all you need is a $5 bill and a creek with some fish in it. Just to prove that point I brought my $500 combo so I could compare the two and see which I caught more fish on.

Testing cheap versus expensive fishing rods is tough because obviously the more expensive rod is going to be better. The so the questions isn't so much if this fishing adventure / fishing video will reveal that the 5 dollar rod is better or worse, but more so just to prove that money isn't that big of a deal when it comes to fishing, and that's the beauty of it. You can go out of your own free will and enjoy fishing even if you're not rich, something that is a major blessing. In this fly fishing video I found some awesome wild brown trout that live in a tiny creek not too far from where I live. This little creek is loaded with wild brown trout and it's a creek that I've been fishing at for over a decade now. So if you enjoy this little creek fishing adventure let me know!

So here’s my overall review of the $5 temu rod.. and that’s that I wouldn’t recommend… unless your budget is $5 in which case go for it. But that wasn’t the point of the video. The point was to prove that you can catch fish without spending a boat load of money. In this case, $5 was the budge and I caught just as many fish on the $5 rod as I did with a rod that cost 100 times as much. Not that the $500 rod isn’t my favorite rod right now, but that just goes to show that if you’re a proficient angler you don’t need to spend money. What that means is if you’re struggling to catch fish, don’t look at your rod and reel, look at how you’re fishing. Because I can promise you a there are people who will catch fish on whatever gear you’re using. So hopefully this inspires even just one person to give fly fishing a shot and or just to go fishing in general. Because spending time outdoors and disconnecting is super important.
