The PDD Calgary Region Community Board collaborated with a team of artists, graphic designers, and disability advocates in 2009. They embarked on a journey to explore through visual art media the diverse ways that persons with disabilities strengthen and add value to our community, and conversely, to question how community can engage adults with a disability in a meaningful and purposeful way.
Their vision: to create an innovative large-scale public artwork developed primarily by persons with disabilities.
Over the next two years, engaging the emerging and established talents of 24 visual artists with disabilities, and working in collaboration with acclaimed multi-media artist Jeff de Boer, this vision became a reality.
The completed sculpture, "A Meaningful Life," documents this interwoven journey.
