The Angry Sea is the true story of the Fishing Vessel C-Scamp. The C-Scamp was crossing the Yaquina Bay Bar in 1956 when an exceptionally large wave came crashing down, crushing the boat. At the time, Boastswain's Mate First Class Tom McAdams was the coxswain on the 52' Motor Lifeboat later named the Victory. BM1 McAdams and his crew were unable to save the crew. The full story can be found in the Book Master Chief Thomas McAdams: The Stories That Made the Legend Triumphs and Tragedies at Sea available on Amazon.
Whenever he experienced a significant rescue, Tom McAdams wrote a poem about it. The song The Angry Sea was based on Tom's poem of the same name. Former Coast Guardsman Randy Beemer took the poem to his group The Hawk Creek Band and they composed and recorded the song.
The still pictures in the video are the work of Ben King of Out West Photography located in South Beach Oregon. Ben does not yet have a website but his work can be seen on his FaceBook page.
Both Randy and Ben have graciously donated their work to this project. We are grateful that they helped us honor the memory of the crew of the C--Scamp, Jack Murphy and Jack Lawson and the career of Retired Master Chief Thomas McAdams.
