Shari says that as soon as she gets paid, she hits the casino. She says she has spent up to $6,000 in one session, and that she is $90,000 in debt. She currently lives with her son and daughter-in-law because she can’t afford to live on her own, and she is too embarrassed to be honest with her family about the depths of her debt.

“What you’re saying here is in your life, you have endured some things that have created [in] you a lingering pain.
