This video displays the setting procedures for the hake demersal longline fishery in Namibia.
Seeing baited lines at night, when fewer seabirds are foraging, can drastically reduce seabird bycatch in longline fisheries. Additionally, using weights to make the lines sink out of seabirds' reach faster, means that the window of opportunity for them to get hooked is minimized.
Since the ATF started working in Namibia in 2008, seabird bycatch in this fleet has been reduced by over 95%!
