FBI Hunt for 9-Year-Old Melodee Buzzard: Latest Clues and Mother's Evasion Tactics

9-year-old Melodee Buzzard has been missing since October 7th, 2025, after leaving Lompoc, California, on a road trip to Nebraska with her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, in a rented white Chevrolet Malibu (license plate 9MNG101). Ashlee returned home alone days later and has been uncooperative with authorities. Surveillance footage and witness accounts place them at a gas station in Colorado, on October 9th. Detectives confirmed she switched the rental car's license plates to New Mexico tags (possibly to avoid detection). Search warrants have been executed at Ashlee's home, a reward has been established, the FBI has narrowed the time frame in which Melodee was last seen, but still need the public's help to find her!

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, with FBI assistance, is investigating, tracing the route via car data, license plate readers, and transactions. No foul play has been confirmed, but family custody disputes and Ashlee's behavior have raised concerns. Melodee is described as 4'6" tall, 75 pounds, with brown hair and eyes; she is homeschooled and at-risk.
