After Studying Under Edgar Moench in Toronto, Jean Claude Larrivee began building guitar. In 1977 He moved his practice to Victoria, BC, where he remained for 4 years before relocating to Vancouver and then California. Today we are working on a model 09 from his Victorian days, in this case 1978, which is extra exciting because Victoria just so happens to be the very city I live in and began my luthier journey. It's a lovely large bodied steel string guitar with a bear claw spruce soundboard and Indian rosewood box. x-braced and robustly so, its a mid-heavy box that's been neglected and needs some loving to go back into full time-gigging action with local legend Brooke Gallupe, who, among other things, is my daughter's choir director! cool! The guitar needs a setup badly,, lots of loose frets means cleaning, gluing, levelling crowning, and of course setting up the nut and saddle. On top of that I tackle some finish issues on the neck and install a sound hole pickup.
