Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Board Game from Wizards of the Coast has become something of a modern classic in cooperative dungeon-crawling board games since its initial release in 2010.

It scratches the dungeon-crawling, dice-chucking, hack-n-slash itch, but leaves a fair bit to be desired in terms of role-playing and character growth.

The game is good, mechanical fun, but doesn't stand out among its peers and successors, which either improve upon the formula -- as in Wrath of Ashardalon, Legend of Drizzt, and The Temple of Elemental Evil -- or outright advance the genre in unique and interesting ways.

It's still definitely worth a look if you are a fan of the genre either mechanically or thematically.
