1500pts Sisters of Battle vs Genestealer Cult in second edition 40K. Witch Hunt vs Dawn Raid. Two Interesting tier two armies, with little to no allies. The first of, hopefully, three games. I decided to write a little narrative to link the games: Narrative at the bottom.

When Canoness Helena heard the confused and panicked reports from the few returning members of Preacher Farb’s expeditionary mission to the catacombs beneath the Imperial Capital, her heart had missed a beat.

Several months ago, with her blessing, the preacher had embarked upon a mission to uncover and map the vast, labyrinthine burial chambers beneath the ancient city, with the hope of uncovering the resting places of several planetary Saints and Imperial Heroes mentioned in the worlds worn torn history.

At first, the reports had been promising: long-lost tombs and mausoleums of past planetary governors and Imperial nobles had been found, to everyone’s joy. The Preacher reported older passageways, places that men had not walked for many lifetimes. The preacher and his retinue had plunged deeper, eager to map and record and bring the forgotten back into the light.

The reports had stopped.

Shortly after, local enforcers voxed the Sanctuary, stating they had detained serfs belonging to her order; mad, distraught, ranting about the beasts lurking below.
They had dispatched a patrol; it was yet to return…

Helena transmitted the order, bringing the last unit of Battle Sisters into position. The canoness watched as across the vast burial hall the xenos filth scurried and loped from the shadows, spreading between the tombs and pillars into a vague battle line.

Only the speed of which the order had deployed would give them a chance to stop the xenos advancing further. Arming rituals and battle rites had been performed with a mix of reverence and urgency. There had barely been time to awaken the electro-priests before they departed, to delve into the catacombs. The Seraphim had led the way, scouting ahead, deciphering the route through the ancient tunnels.

Helena Surveyed the enemy line with her magnocular. Half human, half monsters, with three arms and bestial faces. Delusional human scum, hatred etched into their faces, closed off from the Emperor’s light. She let out a slight breath as she saw a group of Genestealers, sleek, sharp, cunning, deadly.

They would try to pierce her lines, get behind her position, put her on the back foot and open up the larger access ways to the surface… and the city beyond. Now they were discovered, time was of the essence; they must spread confusion and slaughter if they were to survive.

Therefore, her aim must be to delay, to put them into disarray and buy time for the Imperial forces to gather and unite. She upped the magnification. There, near the back on the right flank, the cult’s bloated Progenitor: its patriarch. The aura of its strength was palpable even at this distance, its confidence, it’s pride.
That must be her target. Slay it and the xenos host would reel from the blow. Perhaps even scatter… for a time.

As if sensing her thoughts, the Patriarch threw its head back and roared, shaking the massive chamber and causing dust to fall. As one, the cult lurched forward, driven by some psychic impulse, unintelligible shouts and hisses issuing forth.

As she drew her bolt pistol, Helena thumbed her master vox: “Warriors of our martyred lady, we shall purge this xenos filth with fire and faith! Death to the polluted, for the Emperor!”

A resounding warcry went up from the sisters of battle.
