Saigon Vs The Mekong Delta : Urban Energy vs Rural Tranquility.

In this episode we explore the Vibrant Heart of Vietnam: Saigon & the Mekong Delta . It is days 15-19 of our 23 day Vietnam tour.

We start in Saigon and to be honest at first glance we were not fans it just felt like another big city, however after 2 great tours we fell in love with the city. The night street food moped tour was excellent and took us off the beaten track to taste great food and understand some of the history of Saigon and then a rather damp walking tour also introduced us to the city's famous café culture exploring some of the hidden gems from trendy spots in high-rise apartment blocks to the famous post office building.

This contrasted with the serene and rural Mekong Delta, where time seemed to have stood still . We experienced village life with an excellent guide , Jimmy booked through Friends Travel Vietnam where we made noodles and cooked traditional banana cake with a local family not forgetting an early trip to a floating market.

We stayed in an amazing homestay in the Mekong Delta which did feel like a little paradise.

Hello we are Andy and Julie we have taken a year (or maybe more) sabbatical from work to travel at home and abroad. To date our travels have included St Lucia, Martinique, back packing in Columbia and Peru and 8 weeks in the Dordogne /Lot region of France and Sardinia . At home we have visited St Ives (Cornwall), Cumbria, and North Devon and sailed to the Isles of Scilly as well as finding some hidden gems close to home in Northamptonshire and now we have just returned from a whirl wind ,4 week tour of Hong Kong and Vietnam. It's not ended though as we decided to nip over to France to see the family before Christmas and a few hikes in the Yorkshire dales and the Lake District.
This year is about new adventures , new experiences , pausing the 9-5 , spending time with family and learning new skills. Our mantra for the year is CARPE DIEM (seize the day) !!
