Matt Guziejka (M.S. graduate, Portland State University) presents on Public Perceptions of Beavers in Urban Environments in the April 2025 edition of the Beaver Science Speaker Series.
Matthew Guziejka is a geography researcher and graduate of Portland State University, where he earned a Master’s degree with a thesis titled “Beavers in the City: Exploring Public Perceptions and Opportunities for Coexistence.” His research focuses on urban wildlife management, particularly public attitudes toward beaver restoration efforts in the Tualatin River Watershed, Oregon. Matthew's work combines GIS, survey design, and statistical analysis to understand how demographic and spatial factors influence support for coexistence strategies, including non-lethal management, habitat protection, and education campaigns.
Matthew has presented his findings at multiple conferences including BeaverCon 2024 and the USGS Science Seminar, and contributes to peer-reviewed research on urban ecological restoration.
