On 30 November 2025, Melbourne's Metro Tunnel commenced its first day of operation, and I headed to Sunbury to catch the first train through the new Metro Tunnel. So in this video, you'll see and hear the excitement of being on the very first Metro Tunnel service.
I then cover the Metro Tunnel station facilities, including Platform Screen Doors, Passenger Information Displays, Customer Service windows and toilets.
This is followed by a look at the design and architectural features that include the orange ribs, yellow drum rights, ceiling baffles (that help with wayfinding) and station art by Abdul Abdullah, Patricia Piccinini, Danie Mellor, Maree Clark and Raafat Ishak.
I then cover Anzac Station, with its unique timber canopy and passageway under St Kilda Road, and then Arden, with its huge 16 metre skylights that bring natural light into the platform, then Parkville, with its impressive roof canopy, and then State Library and Town Hall (the two flagship Metro Tunnel stations) with their magnificent Trinocular Caverns, and stunning station entrances.

Accuracy
I do my best to make the commentary in these videos as accurate as possible by checking facts on the internet and other sources. However, sometimes the information isn't available, so I'll use my railway knowledge and insight to explain something to the best of my ability. If accuracy is important, do check the comments, as other viewers will often pick up on things I've missed or any mistakes made. Also note that for older videos, things may change over time, causing some of the information to become out of date.
Copyright
The vast majority of footage is my own, but I will occasionally use photos and videos from other sources to explain ideas more clearly and accurately or to provide comparisons with other transport systems.
In US, Australian and international copyright law, this is considered to be "fair use", and I'll always add an image credit in the video, and where possible, link to the original material in the description.
