Winchester Model 1903

Behold, the first ever semiautomatic rifle of any type produced in the United States! Here we have the Winchester Model 1903, a .22 rimfire (but a proprietary Winchester chambering) rifle that was designed by the great John Pedersen.

Winchester, on the heels of losing John Browning, came to the table with quite a rifle. There were even center fire designs built in later years on this same platform.

The design itself was strangely influenced by Browning but not how you might think……Browning held patents on certain key features like the bolt handle design so these rifles had to be built to not infringe on said patents by getting along WITHOUT a bolt handle, for instance.

Come along as we explore this interesting design and take a closer look.
