I had to fix a flat on my Tern on Sunday and ventured to Bicycles NYC who said it would take 30 minutes, so instead of waiting I took off on a Citi bike up and down Third Avenue - one of Manhattan's best double-wide, protected bike lanes - to get some footage of the daylighting in action.
Let's just say it didn't take much effort to get shots of pedestrians & bicyclists benefitting from the intersections where it is installed with bike parking, large concrete blocks and Citi bike stations which keep drivers from parking there and blocking views. I was shocked it was so busy on a Sunday morning, especially when you hear cranky residents claiming 3rd Avenue bike lane is basically "empty". Also: I will add, the corridor feels even safer with now the signal times set to 15mph. If you can maintain that on your bike you can ride about 20 blocks without stopping!
