Scan conversion is the process of converting geometric shapes (like lines, circles, and polygons) described mathematically (vector graphics) into a pixel-based format (raster graphics) that can be displayed on a computer screen or printed. It is also known as rasterization. This is a core concept in computer graphics, enabling any shape to appear visually as a collection of colored pixels.
Scan conversion translates objects defined by mathematical equations (such as a line from point A to B) into actual dots and lines that light up on the grid of pixels (screen display). It decides which pixels should be switched ON (or filled) to best represent the continuous curve or shape. This process ensures smooth and accurate rendering of graphics objects.
