Knightmare Remake [魔城伝説] Game Sample - PC/Indie

This game is exactly like it sounds; it is a remake of a game titled "Knightmare", an old Konami game that was made way back in 1986 for the MSX. The game deals with a knight (Popolon or Poporon) who goes on a quest to rescue Aphrodite and must battle wicked demons on the way.

While there are a couple other Knightmare games, this remake is a remake of the first game in the series, as the first game was a shooter (that functioned like this one) while the others were an action RPG (the second game) and RPG (the third game). As such, you move your character around shooting arrows and grabbing various power-ups (including a new power-up not from the original, the trident).

You will shoot and make invisible blocks, visible, and by doing so, you usually will discover a useful stage item like a crown (which freezes time) or a...uh...stallion...yeah, lets go with that. The stallion will destroy every enemy currently on the screen. You can also find extra lives as well. Besides those, there are floating "P" icons that can make you stronger. A pink P, for example, will make you move faster and a blue one will give you a shield that protects you from enemy projectiles FROM THE FRONT SIDE (it cannot protect you from side or rear attacks). Shooting a blank box that floats around will let you change your weapon from the default one and grabbing the same weapon icon twice will upgrade that weapon. For example, grabbing a flame power will make the shots focus more towards the front of you instead of the very wide and spread out shot pattern it has when you first get it.
