ABOUT US:
Weber State University (WSU) - Department of Automotive Technology - Transmission Lab.
This video is part 5 of a 5 part series. This video series tells the development history and shows the actual components and operation of a 1940 - 1955 General Motors Hydra-Matic 4-speed Automatic Transmission.
This transmission design was used by Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Pontiac, Lincoln, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Willys, Nash, Hudson as well as the Cadillac-powered M-5 light tank during and other military vehicles World War II.
From what I can find, the 1941 Cadillac 346 V8 had 150 hp and 283 lb-ft of torque (3 pinion rear unit planetary gear set). 1953 Cadillac 331 V8 had 210 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. (4 pinion rear unit planetary gear set)
This video was created and edited by Professor John D. Kelly at WSU. For a full biography, see http://www.weber.edu/automotive/J_Kel...
