Today being my birthday, I thought I might share an entire recital for a change. I recently discovered the pianist Nikita Magaloff and was deeply impressed, particularly by the strength of playing in his later live recordings. Here at age 76 he gives a brilliant and very diverse recital of works by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Debussy, Stravinsky, Chopin, Schubert and Bach. Magaloff was famous for playing Chopin and this account of the composer’s 24 Preludes is among the best complete sets I’ve ever heard.
